The visionary game developer, the mind behind the immensely successful first-person shooter Call of Duty, has died in a vehicle crash in the state of California aged 55.

The tragic news was announced by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, the video game company he co-founded.

The influential video game developer passed away following his vehicle was involved in a crash and caught fire on a highway in the Los Angeles area on Sunday morning, US media outlets report.

"This is an unimaginable loss, and our hearts are with Vince's family, his family, and the countless individuals inspired by his creative vision," a representative from Electronic Arts said.
