London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.

Reportedly a father-of-five, he served as the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and acquaintances remembered him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.

“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a relative asked.

Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their newest son just a few months ago.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, as stated by his wife.

She described the events before the attack, stating they had been standing together when the gunfire erupted. “He shielded me because he wished to be near me,” she recalled.

The pair were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured immense hardship in their childhood. They had later immigrated to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

The French authorities have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is among the victims.

Officially, a senior official declared that France mourned with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This cowardly attack is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,” the message read.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. It has been reported he was injured and underwent treatment in hospital.

Communicating, he recounted the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also noted the actions of those who came to assist. He stated he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.
