Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his future after another convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory naturally but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal exchanges I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
The manager expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his team in their European loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell like this with performances so bad.”
He concluded, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
