Seamer Gus Atkinson Compounds England's Fitness Worries.
'Major setback' for England after Atkinson is forced off suffering a hamstring problem.
The pace bowler further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the field early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.
The right-arm seamer experienced discomfort in his left hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over at the MCG.
The touring camp reported Atkinson reported "discomfort" and was to take time off the field to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".
The series decider in this Ashes battle in Sydney starts this coming Sunday.
England have previously lost strike bowlers Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman to a side strain on this Ashes tour.
A replacement bowler was called up as cover for Wood.
His form was underwhelming during the first two matches, claiming a mere a handful of scalps.
He was omitted from the previous Test, then recalled for the Melbourne Test in the playing XI.
The county bowler improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps with the ball, then making 28 as a batsman among just a trio of England players to get into double digits.
Post a single over at the end of day one, he resumed for the second day's play and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.
However, towards the conclusion of the fifth over, he sent down a variation to the batsman and immediately felt for his hamstring.
Gus Atkinson was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
