Outrage Erupts as Trump's Post on Rob Reiner Draws Fierce Rebuke

Individuals from across the political aisle and the entertainment world are coming together to condemn Donald Trump for his statements following the tragic deaths of renowned director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

An Inflammatory Online Statement

After the couple were found dead at their Los Angeles residence, Trump took to social media to label the late director as "anguished and suffering". The message, he claimed Reiner's demise was "because of the hostility he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments quickly shifted to praising his own achievements, contrasting Reiner's alleged "raging obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump called the "unprecedented era of America".

Law Enforcement Developments and Arrest

Police have since confirmed the detention of the Reiners' adult son, Nick, on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident. It is reported his bail was set at a substantial amount.

A Wave of Condemnation from Public Figures

The response to Trump's words was swift and scathing.

This is a vile and vile statement,” said actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Television host Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a friend, also criticized the statements. Goldberg referenced prior comments from Trump about political violence, demanding, "Do you have no decency? Is it possible to get any lower?"

California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, simply wrote, "He is a sick man."

Echoing this view, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "He is a contemptible piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy added, "He's just crossed a line. Now implying Rob and Michele Reiner caused their own demise because they didn’t support him. So sick."

Rebuke from His Own Political Ranks

Some GOP elected officials also expressed disapproval.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene stated that the situation was "a personal tragedy, not about politics or rivals". She also mentioned challenges with addiction and mental health some families face.

Fellow Republican representative, Thomas Massie, called Trump's discourse "inappropriate and disrespectful" given the nature of the deaths. He openly dared others in his political party to justify the statements.

Reiner's History and Views on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a vocal detractor of Donald Trump. In a past interview, he stated Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the office. He had also warned about the dangers of autocracy if Trump return to power.

"We see autocracy making its move around the world," Reiner noted. "Should the United States crumble, there’s a risk that democracy crumble around the world."

Regardless of his pointed opposition, Reiner had in the past expressed "absolute horror" and condemned political violence without reservation after the shooting of a different individual.

A Notable Connection: The Art of the Deal

Adding a element of past irony, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the photographer who shot the photograph for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once shared the anecdote of the photo shoot, mentioning Trump's request for "special hairspray" as posing on a skyscraper overlooking Central Park.
