Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and continuing assault against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is unclear and the United States has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - stated they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the projectiles with high efficiency and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.

It said debris fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
