Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable changes:
- Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Activities done by human gamers award complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for players looking for alternative ways to have fun with the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Community Feedback
All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
