It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the team that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and once went over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, targeted by the peak baggers, are the only things left for a team that has achieved everything.

The fact it required as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase over 300, taking back their record for the biggest in the women's 50-over format, is, in truth, a testament to the bowling attack that have worn canary yellow over five decades.

It's difficult for their batters to hold a record if never given the possibility.

Ultimately, the result of Australia conceding 330 was skipper Alyssa Healy receiving an opportunity to create her most recent brilliance.

Originally famous as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after Australia didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has witnessed all through 15 championship-filled years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup arrived three months after her bow and seven international trophies have come from 10 tries across formats.

The gritty keeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India briefly halted the successful run.

That loss "drove us to rethink our standards," Healy said this week.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the title decider and was named player of the tournament. She ensured her country would not fail again.

Whether this newest brilliant performance surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Some will argue the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was far harder to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 came as she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance followed six innings in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in training, it has been a frustrating experience because it seemed I've had no rhythm at all," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you take the field, your fighting spirit take over and you simply focus on the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the 22-year-old seamer in every game, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and after that Healy was on her way.

"The possibility to go out there and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, somewhat inspired me," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 as she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three maximums.

By the time she was removed Australia needed 66 more at one run per ball - an unconquered height now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I'm happy we have the belief to achieve that now," added Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, if we do, we know we can achieve it."

These statements will be the last competing nations at this World Cup should hear.

Over the past five days a sense they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this success succeeding success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from last year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - an encounter Healy couldn't play because of damaged tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

Yet even as she later admitted those fitness problems have delayed thoughts of retirement, this tournament is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a world championship as leader.

Triumph in India would bring her to the top of her final mountain.
