Antony Price, Renowned for Designing for Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for a series of unforgettable images favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.
He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the light-hued ensembles that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".
"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."
His passing follows just weeks after he debuted his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by the late Princess Diana.
A Pioneering Career
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he began designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Partnerships with Stars
A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in crafting form-fitting garments made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he began working on pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as various looks for her American tour following her marriage.
After a career spanning over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.

The industry laments the passing to a authentic original whose influence on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
