A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Each year, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
